Supernormal Marketing:
The Original TM Ads, 7 of 8
A new level of claim: "develop enlightenment." Here the public is misled
even more by the language
"verified by physical
feats indicating growing ability to levitate, become invisible, etc., by
mere intention." The only
physical feats were jumping
up and down, screaming, and convulsing -- but you'd never pick that up
from the carefully worded
text. Also at this time,
teachers had to complete an expensive six-month course in Europe to learn
the TM-Sidhis. Non-
teachers were required to take 6 to 8 weeks or
more of Citizens' Courses at an additional cost of thousands of dollars
before even beginning the
Sidhis. Neither fact is
mentioned in the bland assertion that these courses were open to anyone
in the "Transcendental
Meditation Program."
