Excerpts from June 2000 Watchman Fellowship Article on "House of Jacob"

Recently ex-members of The Supreme Council of the House of Jacob of the USA, Inc., sent us copies of some of the group's materials. Founded in 1910, this group is somewhat extensive with missions established in 35-40 States. Though predominantly African-American, they do not exclude whites. They deny the virgin birth, believing that Jesus was literally the son of David (who had been transformed into the angel Gabriel). Concerning leaving the church they state, in part, on page 44 of their Constitution and Bylaws:

• "It is easy for one to proclaim, 'I am through with this church' which means destruction."
• "All who voluntarily pronounce their 'death pact' by saying, 'I am through with the House of Jacob,' the Board of Regulation shall seal the pact by the Holy Ghost and the Holy Scriptures."
• "All who die from this church and from Christ, who reigns over it (St. Luke 1:33) shall remain in the congregation of the dead."

In founding the church, G. W. Israel said that a "voice told me who Jesus was and also told me who I am, and said that I am the 'Son of God,' and the Christ whom the people are talking about and that all nations had to come and huddle at my feet (p. 12)."

One of our favorite lines in the Bylaws is, "Any person or group of persons found using our corporate name are in for trouble; so may it be" (p. 17).

Pretty straight forward.
